Northwest’s juvenile court liaison services ensure that juveniles receive appropriate mental health support while navigating the legal system. Many services include:
- Information linkage: Facilitating the exchange of essential information between the Juvenile Court and mental health professionals to ensure both parties have the necessary data to make informed decisions regarding the child’s case.
- Court assessments: Conducting comprehensive assessments to evaluate the needs and circumstances of juveniles involved in the court system. These assessments help in determining the child’s mental health status and identify any specific issues that need to be addressed.
- Mental health consultations/education: Provide expert consultations and educational resources to both court officials and families on mental health issues to enhance understanding of the psychological aspects of cases and support more informed judicial decisions.
- Short-term therapeutic services: Immediate therapeutic interventions to address urgent mental health needs. This might include counseling, crisis intervention, or other short-term support to stabilize the child’s situation.
- Referrals: Connecting juveniles and their families with appropriate mental health services and community resources to ensure ongoing support and treatment beyond the immediate needs addressed by the liaison.
